QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university; 
  2. Valid teaching certificate appropriate for elementary music;
  3. Demonstrates ability to effectively instruct students in appropriate elementary music skills;
  4. Training in Kodaly or Orff methodologies preferred;
  5. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  6. Ability to manage student behavior in the music classroom.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective elementary music teaching and learning with consideration to behavior management and age-appropriate learning activities. 
  2. Develop, implement, and monitor individual and group instruction in music.
  3. Teach elementary music pedagogy that provides students with an appropriate learning sequence and accounts for various learning styles and abilities. 
  4. Work with campus administrators to organize grade level/school music programs or additional extracurricular ensembles.
  5. Maintain emotional control under stress.
  6. Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
  7. Maintain confidentiality.
  8. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  2. Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment.
  3. Posture: Prolonged standing stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
  4. Motion: Frequent walking.
  5. Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds); may lift and move musical instruments.
  6. Frequent exposure to noise/sound.
