PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned

 Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Attendance

  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function 

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP). Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for approved extracurricular activities or outside activities for which you are the sponsor.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct the work of instructional aide(s), if assigned.

 

MENTAL DEMANDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment; [Physical Education Teachers: Must be willing to obtain and maintain a current automated external defibrillator (AED) and CPR certificate]
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking
  • Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment
  • Environment: Work inside, may work outside; regular exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours

In your resume/cover letter, please list the art techniques and mediums you are most comfortable teaching. List rankings in order, with highest skill at the top.

  • Sculpture and Ceramics (paper-mâché, clay, wire, etc. Please share if you have knowledge on operating a kiln.)
  • Painting (watercolor paint, tempera paint, printmaking)
  • Drawing (chalk pastels, oil pastels, collage)
  • Digital art (knowledge of Adobe Photoshop application)
  • Photography (knowledge of developing film, darkroom printing, chemicals, operating manual cameras in addition to digital photography/cameras and Adobe Photoshop application)

Upload an electronic portfolio to the Attachment section of your application. Please include samples from personal work (4-6), lessons plans (2) and student artwork (4-6), as requested below:

  • TEACHERS (1 or more years of teaching) include samples from all 3 below:
    1. Personal work: 4-6 images showing a variety of your art skills and mediums you have experience working with/using.
    2. Samples of art lesson plans: 2 past lessons from different grades/art levels with at least 2 images of student work produced from each lesson. (See 3 below).
    3. Student artwork: 4-6 images of your students’ artwork. (May include additional images of student work from other lessons not shown in portfolio.)
  • FOR STUDENT TEACHERS (no years of teaching experience) include:
    1. Personal work: 4-6 images showing a variety of your art skills and mediums you have experience using
    2. Samples of art lesson plans: 2 lessons from various grades/art levels used during your student teaching placement(s). Also include 2 images of student artwork samples as products from the lessons.
    3. Optional-You may include additional images of student artwork outside of student teaching that involved you providing lessons for/teaching an individual or group, such as, summer camp, daycare, Sunday school, private art lessons/classes.
  • FOR ACP (no years of student teaching or teaching experience) include:
    1. Personal work: 4-6 images showing a variety of your art skills and mediums you have experience using
    2. Samples of art lesson plans: 2 lesson plan samples.
    3. Optional-You may include additional images of artwork that involved you providing lessons for/teaching an individual or a group, such as, summer camp, daycare, Sunday school, private art lessons/classes.
