QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master's degree or higher from a recognized accredited college or university;
  2. Valid Texas teaching certificate;
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher or school librarian;
  4. A valid Texas Learning Resources Specialist certificate, Learning Resources endorsement, Professional Library Learning Resources Specialist certification, or School Librarian certificate;
  5. Proven leadership in library media services and/or instructional skills to work with staff, students, families, and communities;
  6. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  7. Knowledge of library and information science; and
  8. Ability to instruct and work with students. 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 188 days

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2021-2022

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

Administrative Leadership

  1. Works cooperatively with other school librarians in the district to assure a cohesive K-12 Library program.
  2. Operates and supervises the library.
  3. Prepares, administers, and maintains accurate records related to the library budget.
  4. Evaluates, selects and orders new instructional materials, digital resources, equipment, and furniture for the library.
  5. Provides reference service and readers’ advisory.
  6. Maintains a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all print and non-print materials.
  7. Maintains an efficient system for circulation, retrieval, maintenance and storage of equipment, digital resources, and print materials.
  8. Trains and supervises all library staff and library volunteers in the performance of their duties.
  9. Arranges for inter-library loan of materials.
  10. Schedules the use of the library for maximum accessibility to equipment, digital resources, print materials, and library space.
  11. Weeds materials from the collection according to the district library policy and procedure manual and the CREW guidelines.
  12. Coordinates the services of the school library through partnerships with public and state
  13. Maintains accurate records of the library’s holdings and statistics, as needed.
  14. Creates an appropriate climate in the library that reflects the philosophy of the school and district.
  15. Participates actively in professional library organizations.
  16. Sustains knowledge of current literature, as related to the library patrons, as well as the professional library.
  17. Supports and enforces the district’s acceptable use policy.

Teaching

  1. Provides orientation programs.
  2. Provides formal and informal instruction of library resources for students and staff.
  3. Encourages the love of reading through book talks, reading incentives, etc.
  4. Assists students in the selection of library resources.
  5. Teaches research skills and inquiry methods to students and staff through whole group instruction and/or individually.
  6. Promotes the critical role of information literacy and essential skills needed for a 21st-century learner.

 Collaboration

  1. Collaborates with staff for effective use of library services, resources, and facilities.
  2. Assists staff and students in the use of technology.
  3. Works cooperatively with *staff on the selection of instructional resources.
  4. *Collaborates with other librarians to plan effective library programs.

Public Relations

  1. Keeps principal, staff, students and parents informed of library program goals, objectives, and resources.
  2. Schedules library programs to enrich students' literary experiences. (i.e. author/illustrator visits, storytellers, book fairs, book clubs, etc.)
  3. Creates and maintains a positive and welcoming climate in the library.
