QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Clear and valid Texas commercial driver’s license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements;
  2. High School Diploma or GED;
  3. (1) One year’s transportation routing experience in public schools;
  4. (2) Two years’ experience as a school bus supervisor preferred;
  5. Ability to use personal computer and software to develop route schedules, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing;
  6. Ability to evaluate situations and make sound decisions under pressure;
  7. Ability to read and understand documents including policies and guidelines and procedures handbooks;
  8. Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions in and effective and professional manner;
  9. Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests, and annual physical exam;
  10. Proven effective organizational and communication skills;
  11. Ability to safely operate a school bus.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                      

250 days

 

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$49,515   BA-2

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2019-2020

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop, implement, and evaluate bus runs/routes to ensure they are safe, efficient, and timely in accordance with the Texas Education Agency;
  2. Provide input regarding Transportation Operations guidelines and procedures pertaining to the routing program and assignments;
  3. Assist with the continued evaluation of growth areas; approve and implement modifications;
  4. Communicate necessary routing information and changes to the Area Director to disseminate accordingly, as well as parents, campuses and community members as necessary;
  5. Assist with any routing data reports as requested by the Assistant Director of Transportation, Operations;
  6. Compile department reports, state reports, and other documents and reports as required;
  7. Collaborate with the Research and Planning Department and the Technology Department regarding the routing software mapping and student information needs;
  8. Assist Transportation Human Resources with department interviews, both internal and external, for designated assignments and vacant positions as requested;
  9. Coordinate and implement regular and special needs route selection processes;
  10. Coordinate assignment of all regular and special needs routes, and communicate relevant information to necessary parties, including payroll and other department staff;
  11. Plan, prepare, and present staff development operational training and presentations as necessary;
  12. Establish and maintain professional working relationships with Transportation Department staff, campus personnel, parents, and community members;
  13. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and electronic reports, records, and other documents as required;
  14. Assist with all route selection processes, including the distribution of route information to parents and guardians through various communication methods, including but not limited to mailers and automated phone calls;
  15. Serve as a substitute bus driver as needed;
  16. Other duties as assigned.
  17. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
