QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/Certification:

1.  High school diploma required, bachelor's degree in computer science or related field preferred.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

2.  Knowledge of telecommunications systems engineering.
3.  Knowledge of Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) networking and connectivity, specifically phone models 7821, 7841, 8851, 8831, 8845, 8865.
4.  Analog Telephone Adaptors and Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony (U-SRST).
5.  Cisco routers, network electronics, and call manager (Unity).
6.  Unified Communications.
7.  Network and cabling installations and VoIP troubleshooting and deployments.
8.  Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
9.  Ability to implement policy and procedures.
10.Clear and valid Texas driver's license and acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas School Bus Drivers requirements.

 

Experience:

1.  Minimum one year’s experience with local exchange carrier and voice technologies.
2.  Minimum one year’s experience in installation, configuration, troubleshooting and support of WAN hardware such as CSU/DSUs, routers, switches and terminal servers.
3.  Minimum one year’s experience in large IP routing environment.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                      

260 days

 

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$22.56 Per Hour/HS 10

Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2017-2018.

                          

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  Maintain communications systems including installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment by installing, repairing, programming, and upgrading cable infrastructure.
2.  Receive and resolve service requests for issues regarding voice and data issues district wide.
3.  Provide technical training regarding campus telecomm/network equipment.
4.  Coordinate with asset management department regarding new and used equipment.
5.  Perform major and minor preventive maintenance and repairs by troubleshooting cabling system and data and voice service issues.
6.  Identify, track and remove abandoned cable. Diagnose and correct copper wire problems.
7.  Test newly installed or relocated cable in accordance with established procedures.
8.  Determine closet and equipment layouts and installed closet hardware including backboards, connecting blocks, racks, and network equipment.
9.  Operate, maintain, and organize company vehicle.
10.Plan network installations by analyzing customer service requests and service needs.
11.Establish voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables and establishing connections.
12.Verify service by testing circuits, equipment, and escalating problems.
13.Document network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
14.Maintain customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns and answering questions.
15.Maintain safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
16.Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
17.Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
18.Perform other applicable ECN related duties as needed.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.  Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent districtwide travel and occasional statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
