QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university, with additional graduage study or a Master's degree preferred;

2.  Texas certification in secondary education in English Language Arts Reading ESL; 

3.  Minimum of four (4) years of successful experience as an ESL teacher, preferably in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD;

4.  Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, and cooperating with other teachers;

5.  Successful experience with at-risk students and flexible regrouping in language arts;

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 197 days

 

SALARY:

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  To work with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations and Coordinator for Secondary ESL to successfully transition ESL students to English.

2.  To work with curriculum coordinators, teachers, and adminstration to facilitate implementation of TEKS and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).

3.  To work with Coordinator for Secondary ESL to develop assessment instruments.

4.  To model lessons in the classroom.

5.  To assist and train teachers in the implementation of instructional strategies.

6.  To develop a plan of action with the coordinator, campus administrators, and teachers to improve student achievment.

7.  To observe teachers and provide feedback.

8.  To train teachers in implementing instructional strategies.

9.  To work with coordinators and building administration to plan staff development.

10. To assist coordinator on district staff development days.

11. To attend staff development.

12. To assist campuses in increasing/improving parental involvement so that they may work more effectively with parents of at-risk students.

13. To work with director on program evaluations.

14. To communicate with coordinator regarding development and progress of the program in the building.

15. To assist with implemention and supervison of summer school programs.

16. To link campuses to additional support services.

17. Other duties as assigned by coordinator and director.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
