Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university, with graduate study in dyslexia, reading and/or supervision preferred

2.  Texas certification in elementary education or secondary education with an emphasis in reading/language arts

3.  A minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher and/or reading specialist

4.  Fundamental knowledge regarding dyslexia and related disorders, and §504 policies and procedures

5.  Successful experience with at-risk students, flexible regrouping and phonetic skill instruction

6.  Demonstrated skill in leading, motivating, coaching teachers 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 197 days

 

SALARY:

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  Provide staff development, collaborate with dyslexia teachers, and advise campus on the implementation of research-based interventions and instructional strategies for students with dyslexia and related disorders.

2.  Visit dyslexia classes and provide feedback and coaching as they relate to students with dyslexia and related disorders learning needs and instructional requirements.

3.  Provide training and supports in the area of assessment and identification of students with dyslexia and related disorders following the TEA Dyslexia Handbook guidelines.

4.  Assist dyslexia teachers and campus SIT/RtI teams with the review of related data and assessments prior to campus §504 committee decisions.

5.  Provide training for the collection and utilization of dyslexia class curriculum progress monitoring data.

6.  Participate in regional and state training in the area of dyslexia and related disorders to ensure district compliance with state mandated standards and expectations.

7.  Assist campus staff with parent concerns, questions, and requests regarding the district dyslexia and related disorders program and services.

8.  Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Elementary Curriculum and Instruction.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
