QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, with graduate study in administration preferred;

2. Texas certification in elementary education with specialization in reading/language arts;

3. Minimum of five (5) years of successful experience as an elementary reading/language arts teacher;

4. Successful experience with at-risk students, the components of balanced literacy, Six Traits™ writing, and integrating social studies and technology in reading/language arts;

5.  Demonstrated skill in developing and presenting staff development, using technology to design curriculum products and collaborating with district personnel.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 197 days

 

SALARY:

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.  Assist with the creation of a strong, research-based reading/language arts program that supports the development of proficient readers and effective communicators.

2.  Provide staff development, collaborate with teachers, and advise campus staff on the implementation of the elementary reading/language arts and social studies TEKS, the district curriculum, and reading and writing workshop.

3.  Support campus staff with the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment through data analysis, planning, modeling lessons, training, and consulting.

4.  Establish a professional learning community that supports the growth and development of the teachers selected for the District Model Literacy Teacher Initiative.

5.  Establish a professional learning community (New Teacher Academy) that supports the growth and development of new Reading / Language Arts teachers.

6.  Plan for and support the integration of technology and social studies in the reading/language arts classroom.

7.  Assist in the development of curriculum and assessment products, including the district benchmarks, curriculum units of study, and other literacy-based resources, to support the implementation of the reading/language arts and social studies TEKS.

8.  Lead special projects such as the District Spelling Bee, Reading Intervention Tutor training, reading interventions, etc.

9.  Provide training for summer school teachers and assist with the implementation of the summer school reading programs in grades 2 - 5.

10.  Assist in the selection and implementation of literacy resources and staff development materials.

11. Attend and assist with the facilitation of Language Arts Liaison meetings, Instructional Specialist meetings, and other literacy-related events.

12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Elementary Language Arts for Grades 2-5.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
