QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1. Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university;

2. Valid teaching certificate appropriate for Language Arts for Grades 6-8 and a certification in English as a Second Language (ESL);

3. Minimum of 3 years experience with Secondary ESL students;

4. Successful experience with at-risk students and flexible regrouping language arts.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days

 

SALARY:

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Instruct and accelerate English language acquisition to ESL students who are new to the country and meet the program entry criteria.
  2. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at all times designated.
  3. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective teaching/learning.
  4. Prepare for classes assigned.
  5. Build relationships with students and their parents.
  6. Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of skills, concepts, and second language acquisition strategies to be taught in the content area assigned.
  7. Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings.
  8. Document the teaching of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills.
  9. Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  10. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
  11. Carry out other approved intervention teacher activities as may be required by the school Principal in collaboration with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Special Populations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
