QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree or higher frm a recognized, accredited college or university;
  2. Valid Texas School Counselor certificate;
  3. Licensed professional Counselor credential preferred;
  4. Minimum of five (5) years as a school counselor with three (3) years of counseling supervision or admnistrative leadersip experience preferred;
  5. Demonstrated strong leadership ability and interpersonal skills; effective counseling, communication, and technology skills, and local or state membership in a professional counseling organization.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 250 days

 

SALARY:

$87,695. minimum (IA 7)

Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2016-2017

 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Supervise the Guidance & Counseling Coordinators and Youth Services Specialists; the ISC Guidance & Counseling Staff, i.e. itinerant counselor, substitute counselors, and administrative assistants.
    2. Provide leadership and supervisory support for the counseling staff in the planning, implementing, and evaluating of the district-wide Developmental Guidance program (DGP).
    3. Advocate and interpret the role of school counselors for staff, parents, administrators, & community.
    4. Plan and maintain Guidance & Counseling budgets.
    5. Work collaboratively with the Human Resources Department to maintain a full staff of school counselors in all schools (e.g., screen counseling applicants; and assist principals in hiring, supervision, and evaluation of counseling staff.)
    6. Work collaboratively with district leadership and school principals to monitor guidance and counseling activities in the schools and support campus counselors.
    7. Coordinate with other district departments in providing assistance to campuses with crisis management as needed.
    8. Plan and present district-wide staff development for the professional growth of school counselors through district-scheduled training days and budget support for counselors to attend local and state counseling workshops and college/university update programs.
    9. Assist counselors in problem-solving issues related to their assignment, including district policies, regulations, ethical standards, and state and federal law (FERPA).
    10. Assist counselors in providing special services and support for students and families (PSAT, SAT, ACT, AP, college/career programs, scholarship and financial aid programs, G/T, parenting courses, etc.)
    11. Oversee the development of the counselor calendar, updating of counselor handbook and counselor templates, purchasing of materials, and developing and maintaining the counseling budgets.
    12. Work collaboratively with the Harris County Community Youth Services Program to contract for social work services, and coordinate and evaluate Youth Service Specialists.
    13. Provide training and monthly update meetings for counselors, Youth Service Specialists, and ISC Staff.
    14. Collaborate and problem solve with the Elementary, Middle, & High School Guidance & Counseling Coordinators.
    15. Coordinate the dissemination of information from Community Resources to counselors and to other professional staff as needed.
    16. Serve as a member of the Curriculum Councils and District Leadership Team.
    17. Attend professional administrative/counselor meetings, conferences, workshops and seminars, and disseminate relevant information to counselors.
    18. Work closely with Psychological Services Department to develop crisis protocols and procedures.
    19. Supervise the selection and implementation of Career Assessment / Four Year Plan Platform for secondary counselors.
    20. Supervise the coordination of the district Guidance & Counseling scholarship web page and other Guidance & Counseling web site information.
    21. Participate in district wide activities such as RRR and Back to School Expo.
    22. Remain current on federal and state mandates that impact school counselors and assist in district implementation.
    23. Research best practices and remain current on school counselor relevant skills.
    24. Provide input annually on the DIP as it relates to Guidance & Counseling.
    25. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Associate Superintendent School Administration and Leadership Development.
