Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma/GED equivalent.
2. Must have interest in and empathy for children.
3. Must obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with all appropriate endorsements and classifications and all other required licenses, permits and certificates.
4. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety that reflects a professional driver and which meets all contractual, local, state and federal requirements.
5. Ability to speak, read, and understand the English language.  

6. Must pass an annual physical in accordance with state law.
7. Must show negative on a drug and/or alcohol test to be given on a pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and district policy.
8. Must have completed or be enrolled in the School Bus Driver Certification course developed by the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
9. Must successfully complete the School Bus Driver Training Program as provided by the district.
10. Must have the writing and arithmetic skills to accurately complete the assigned forms and reports.
11. Must be able to read and interpret routes and forms as well as read and use a map.
12. Must be physically able to climb in and out of the school bus emergency door to evacuate the bus in an emergency.
13. Must follow District and Transportation Department policies and procedures.
14. Must have an acceptable criminal background check result.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                      

177 days

Guarantee 4 hours minimum per day. Paid training period will be provided.

 

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$16.77/HS6

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year 2018-2019     

                                        

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Operate bus and all related equipment in a safe and efficient manner, obeying all traffic laws and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the department.
2. Report involvement in any accident/incident or job-related injury within 24 hours (48 hours on week-ends).
3. Report mechanical problems, damage to bus (interior and exterior) and perform pre-trip inspections.
4. Keep interior of bus clean/neat and maintain appropriate level of fuel as stated in department policy.
5. Maintain effective pupil behavior management control over groups of children.
6. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, parents, school personnel and co-workers.
7. Load and unload students from the bus following prescribed policies and procedures.
8. Must perform emergency evacuation of students on bus if needed: walking to rear of bus, exiting the rear door and/or lifting students in emergency situations.
9. Must attend in-service training classes and safety meetings as required by the department.
10. Must maintain accurate, updated records turned in at a timely manner, as required.
11. Must establish and maintain regular and reliable attendance record with Cy-Fair I.S.D.
12. Must check mailbox before and after each route.
13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of the assigned center.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

1. Requires performing tasks such as sitting, twisting and bending.
2. Work positions include kneeling and climbing, with extended reach above head (12 inches) and extended reach in front of body (14 inches).
3. Load and unload vehicle, lifting and pulling up to 20 pounds on hand device while operating the service door, opening and closing 15-60 times per shift.
4. Operate the vehicle in all climatic conditions.
5. Operate the vehicle up to 7 1/2 hours per day on established routes.
6. Climb in and out of bus, through service door, 5-15 times per shift.
7. Physical ability to enter and exit the bus through the emergency exits.
8. Drive in reverse (as dictated by circumstances) which requires twisting the upper body and neck while driving.
9. Must be able to pass a mandatory Department of Transportation Physical which includes the following:

*Diabetes - have no established medical history or clinical diagnosis of diabetes Mellitus currently requiring insulin for control

*Hypertension - Blood pressure maximum 160/90

*Vision - have distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 (Snellen) in each eye with or without corrective lenses or visual acuity

separately corrected to 20/40 (Snellen) or better with corrective lenses, field of vision of at least 70 degrees in the horizontal

meridian in each eye and the ability to recognize the colors of traffic signals and devices showing standard red, green and amber.

*First perceive a forced whispered voice in the better ear not less than 5 feet with or without the use of a hearing aid, or if tested by use of an audiometric device, does not have an average hearing loss in the better ear greater than 40 decibels at 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz and 2,000 Hz with or without a hearing aid when the audiometric device is calibrated to American National Standard (formerly ASA Standard) Z24.5-1951.
