QUALIFICATIONS:
- Texas Registered Nurse license required; Bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university preferred; Associate’s degree accepted with appropriate pediatric work experience.
- Applicant must possess the appropriate licensure and credentials as defined by the State of Texas.
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to speak, read, and understand the English language.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Substitutes are employed on an at-will basis and are not considered contractual employees.
SALARY:
$110.00/day
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide emergency care for the ill or injured, using first aid procedures, and obtaining necessary assistance in cases of serious trauma and/or illness.
- Provide daily care of students with medical problems in the school setting, by carrying out or assisting with special procedures.
- Provide referrals and follow-up for identified health problems as necessary to attain optimum health for each student.
- Maintain accurate and complete health records on each student including immunization records, health history, screening results, referral, and follow-up information.
- Adhere to the Texas immunization law securing records on each student and to update as necessary on electronic medical records.
- Control communicable diseases (excluding and re-admission); notifying the health department of all reportable diseases.
- Dispense medication according to state law and district policy.
- Promote health education in the clinic, in the classroom and with the teacher by providing support and resources to meet the curriculum needs.
- Provide health counseling for students with health problems, cooperating with principals, teachers, counselors, family physicians and other agencies.
- Actively support the philosophy of the school district and the total school program.
- Communicate effectively with the principal in interpreting and implementing policies, laws, and procedures of the health services program.
- To perform other duties and functions as assigned.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
