QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university;
2. Valid certification as a special education teacher;
3. Demonstrated successful experience in working with special needs students preferred;
4. Three (3) years of successful experience as a special education teacher preferred;
5. Experience at all levels (elementary, middle and high school) preferred.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Implements a continuing educational program for the special education student who is unable to attend classes due to illness or injury.
- Confers with the classroom teachers on a regular basis in coordinating the instructional programs and materials utilized and/or needed by each student.
- Confers with counselors concerning newly referred student's admission to the program as well as the student's re-entrance to the campus classroom.
- Frequently evaluates students, both formally and informally, and continually re-adjusts plans to meet individual needs.
- Assists in writing specific educational objectives for each student.
- Serves on the ARD committee.
- Requests aid from the appropriate support personnel in solving specific problems.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
- Teaches mastery of skills in content area with the goal of returning the student to his/her home school.
- Meets and instructs assigned students in the location and at the time designated.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the District's philosophy of education, goals and objectives.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
- Acquires professional growth through attending workshops, seminars, conferences, reading professional materials and/or obtaining course work at institutes of higher learning.
- Assists in updating the IEP for each long-term homebound student.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate special education coordinator or the Director of Special Education.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
