QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized, accredited college or university;
2. Valid certification as a special education teacher;
3. Demonstrated successful experience in working with special needs students preferred;
4. Three (3) years of successful experience as a special education teacher preferred;
5. Experience at all levels (elementary, middle and high school) preferred.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Probationary/Term Contract: 187 days

 

SALARY:

Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Implements a continuing educational program for the special education student who is unable to attend classes due to illness or injury.
  2. Confers with the classroom teachers on a regular basis in coordinating the instructional programs and materials utilized and/or needed by each student.
  3. Confers with counselors concerning newly referred student's admission to the program as well as the student's re-entrance to the campus classroom.
  4. Frequently evaluates students, both formally and informally, and continually re-adjusts plans to meet individual needs.
  5. Assists in writing specific educational objectives for each student.
  6. Serves on the ARD committee.
  7. Requests aid from the appropriate support personnel in solving specific problems.
  8. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations.
  9. Teaches mastery of skills in content area with the goal of returning the student to his/her home school.
  10. Meets and instructs assigned students in the location and at the time designated.
  11. Strives to implement by instruction and action the District's philosophy of education, goals and objectives.
  12. Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
  13. Acquires professional growth through attending workshops, seminars, conferences, reading professional materials and/or obtaining course work at institutes of higher learning.
  14. Assists in updating the IEP for each long-term homebound student.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate special education coordinator or the Director of Special Education.
  16. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
